Overview
The Posiflex PD2603U-B is a 2x20 character VFD (vacuum fluorescent display) mounted on a pole base, designed to sit beside point-of-sale terminals in retail and hospitality environments. It communicates via USB-HID, eliminating the need for a separate serial port or proprietary driver — plug into any USB port and the host POS system recognizes it as a human-interface device. This form factor keeps the customer-facing display at eye level without occupying counter space.
Compatibility
The PD2603U-B works with any POS software that supports standard USB-HID display devices, including Windows-based systems (7 and later) and Linux environments with HID support. It is compatible with Posiflex terminals and third-party POS systems that have been configured for generic USB display output. Verify your POS application supports USB-HID text display before deployment — not all legacy or proprietary POS systems offer this interface.
Installation Notes
The pole base mounts to a counter or stand using the included bracket hardware. Positioning matters: angle the display toward customer eye level (approximately 45–60 degrees from horizontal) to reduce glare and improve readability in bright retail lighting. Route the USB cable behind the counter or through cable management to avoid trip hazards. Ensure the USB power budget on your host machine can sustain the display; most modern PCs and industrial fanless terminals supply sufficient USB current, but older or heavily loaded systems may require a powered USB hub.
