The Lenovo 7Z57A03566 is a 5-meter Direct Attach Copper (DAC) breakout cable. It connects a single QSFP28 port on a server or network device to four independent 25GbE SFP28 ports. This cable is essential for high-density server deployments and network aggregation where you need to split a 100Gbps interface into multiple 25Gbps links without using transceivers or patch panels.
This cable is designed for use with Lenovo ThinkSystem and ThinkEdge servers and adapters that feature QSFP28 ports. Specifically, it is intended to connect to network adapters such as the ThinkSystem Mellanox ConnectX-6 Lx 10/25GbE SFP28 adapters (e.g., 4XC7A62580, 4XC7A62582) and the ThinkEdge Mellanox CX6 Lx 10/25GbE SFP28 adapter (CTO only: BMHD). It provides the physical link for breaking out 100Gbps into four 25Gbps connections.
Ensure the QSFP28 port on the source device and the four SFP28 ports on the destination devices are clean before insertion. The cable is passive, meaning it does not require external power. For optimal performance and to prevent damage, avoid sharp bends or excessive pulling on the cable connectors. The MPO connector on one end plugs into the QSFP28 port, while the four SFP28 connectors plug into individual SFP28 ports.
