Description

Middle Atlantic FC-2-215-1CA Thermostatic Fan Controller

Overview

The Middle Atlantic FC-2-215-1CA is an active thermostatic fan controller designed to automate cooling in AV and equipment racks. Rather than running rack fans continuously at full speed, the FC-2-215-1CA cycles or modulates two fans in response to actual thermal conditions — reducing noise during low-load periods and extending fan service life. It handles 120 VAC via standard NEMA 5-15R receptacles, so compatible rack fans plug directly into the controller without additional wiring adapters. At 4.11 in wide and 8.54 in tall with a 2.7 in depth, it mounts neatly in a standard rack bay without consuming excessive vertical space. This is the correct controller when you need automated, temperature-responsive fan management for a 2-fan configuration in a 120 VAC North American installation.

Compatibility

The FC-2-215-1CA is designed for use within the Middle Atlantic rack and enclosure ecosystem, including ventilated rack enclosures and open-frame racks that accept standard fan trays with NEMA 5-15 plug connections. It controls up to two fans simultaneously. Fans must be rated for 120 VAC and terminated with NEMA 5-15 plugs to connect directly. This controller is part of Middle Atlantic's FC series thermal management line; verify fan tray compatibility against your specific rack model before ordering. It is not rated for 240 VAC or international power configurations.

Installation Notes

Mount in a rack bay with access to a 120 VAC branch circuit. The unit's active component classification means it draws power independently to operate its sensing and switching logic — confirm your rack's power strip or PDU can supply the controller's parasitic load in addition to the connected fans. The 2.7 in depth is shallow enough for most rack rear-clearance constraints, but verify against your enclosure's internal depth before installation. Connect fan power cords to the two NEMA 5-15R output receptacles; the controller handles switching automatically based on temperature thresholds.
