Description

Vertiv DSAVIQ-PS2M Server Interface Module for PS/2 and VGA with USB Virtual Media

Overview

The DSAVIQ-PS2M is a KVM Server Interface Module (SIM) from Vertiv's Avocent line designed to connect PS/2-based servers to compatible KVM switch appliances. It handles VGA video, PS/2 keyboard and mouse signals, and adds USB virtual media capability — meaning you can mount ISO images or USB drives remotely through the KVM fabric without physically touching the server. If you're managing legacy servers with PS/2 ports in a data center or server room, the DSAVIQ-PS2M bridges that hardware into a modern KVM infrastructure without requiring a server-side OS agent or separate console access.

Compatibility

The DSAVIQ-PS2M is one of several Server Interface Modules in the Vertiv Avocent SIM family, each targeting a specific server video/input standard. Compatible alternatives for other server configurations include:

  • MPUIQ-SRL: Serial devices requiring extended distance (needs UPD-AM adapter).
  • MPUIQ-VMCDP: DisplayPort video servers with USB keyboard/mouse, virtual media, CAC, and USB 2.0 — use this for modern workstations or servers with DP outputs.
  • MPUIQ-VMCDV: DVI video servers with the same USB virtual media, CAC, and USB 2.0 support.
  • MPUIQ-VMCHD: HDMI video servers with virtual media, CAC, and USB 2.0 — the right choice for servers or appliances with HDMI console ports.
  • SFIQ-VGA: Smaller form factor VGA module with USB virtual media, CAC, and USB 2.0 — fits space-constrained deployments or environments using MPU, AV3108, and AV3216 appliances.

Verify your target Avocent KVM appliance model explicitly supports the DSAVIQ-PS2M before ordering — not all Avocent switch generations accept every SIM variant. Cross-check the appliance's compatibility matrix against this module's part number.

Installation Notes

The DSAVIQ-PS2M ships with a 14-inch cable, which determines the maximum physical distance between the SIM and the server's PS/2 and VGA ports. Plan rack layout so servers sit within that cable reach of the SIM connection point — the 14-inch length is not field-extendable at the SIM end. For serial-device connectivity at extended distances, the MPUIQ-SRL with UPD-AM is the correct path, not this module.
