Description

Middle Atlantic 880CS2-1 Deep 2-Gang Cast Iron Concrete Floor Box

Overview

The Middle Atlantic 880CS2-1 is a deep 2-gang cast iron floor box from the Middle Atlantic OmniBox 880CS series, engineered for in-floor power and data distribution in poured concrete slabs. At 9.63 inches deep, it accommodates the pour depth typical of commercial concrete floor construction — where a shallow box would sit proud of the finished slab or leave insufficient cover over wiring. The 5.38" × 3.38" footprint fits standard 2-gang cutouts, making it compatible with common in-floor device configurations used in conference rooms, trading floors, classrooms, and commercial floor box installations where surface raceway is not an option.

Compatibility

The 880CS2-1 is part of Middle Atlantic's 880CS OmniBox series of cast iron concrete floor boxes. It accepts standard 2-gang device inserts and cover plates designed for the 880CS series — confirm insert and cover compatibility against the 880CS series accessories before ordering. Intended for new concrete pours; not designed as a retrofit into cured slabs without cutting. Verify rough-in depth against your specific slab specification: the 9.63" depth suits standard commercial pours but may be excessive for thin slabs under 4 inches. TAA compliance is not applicable to this SKU.

Installation Notes

Install during the rough-in phase before the concrete pour — the box must be set and secured to rebar or the deck at the correct finished-floor elevation prior to pouring. The cast iron body withstands the weight and vibration of concrete placement. After curing, the 9.63" internal depth provides clearance for conduit entries and wiring without sharp bends. Confirm local electrical code requirements for in-floor boxes in concrete; some jurisdictions require specific cover ratings or listed assemblies for wet or damp locations.
