Description

Black Box LGC211A-R2 Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter

Overview

The Black Box LGC211A-R2 is a Gigabit Ethernet media converter designed to bridge the gap between copper twisted-pair and multimode fiber optic networks. It converts 10/100/1000BASE-TX Ethernet signals to 1000BASE-SX fiber signals, enabling network extension over longer distances than copper alone can support. This unit is specifically suited for industrial environments or network backbones where reliable, high-speed data transmission is critical. Its built-in broadcast storm control feature helps maintain network stability by mitigating excessive traffic.

Compatibility

This converter is designed to interface with standard 10/100/1000BASE-TX Ethernet ports found on switches, routers, and network interface cards. The 1000BASE-SX fiber port utilizes an SC connector and operates at an 850nm wavelength, compatible with standard multimode fiber infrastructure. It is suitable for integration into existing fiber connectivity deployments.

Installation Notes

The LGC211A-R2 requires a standard 10/100/1000BASE-TX Ethernet connection on one side and a multimode fiber optic cable with an SC connector on the other. The maximum transmission distance over multimode fiber is 500 meters. Ensure the fiber optic cable is rated for the 850nm wavelength and is properly terminated for reliable performance.
