The Altronix NETWAY1XP is a 30W single-port PoE midspan injector designed to deliver power and data over existing Ethernet infrastructure to PoE-compatible devices without requiring a switch replacement. The NETWAY1XP supports both PoE and PoE+ output standards, enabling flexible deployment of powered network devices—IP cameras, access points, intercoms, and other endpoints—at distances up to 100 meters from the existing data source.
Midspan injection is the fastest retrofit solution for existing non-PoE infrastructure. Rather than running new cabling from a PoE-enabled switch or adding a powered distribution panel, the NETWAY1XP sits between the existing switch and the endpoint, converting a conventional data line into a powered line in seconds. This topology is particularly valuable in retrofit deployments where cabling runs are already in place, conduit is full, or the switch is geographically distant from the powered device.
The 30W budget supports a wide range of modern security and networking endpoints. A typical 4MP fixed dome camera draws 8–12W; a PTZ camera with heater draws 15–25W; a dual-radio PoE access point draws 20–25W. The NETWAY1XP delivers full PoE+ negotiation, so devices that only require PoE (15.4W) receive only what they need, while higher-draw equipment gets the full 30W allocation. This automatic negotiation eliminates manual configuration and reduces unnecessary power consumption on low-draw endpoints.
The injector operates over any standard Ethernet run (Cat5e minimum; Cat6 recommended for long runs or electrically noisy environments). At 100 meters, voltage drop across the cable remains within IEEE 802.3 specifications, ensuring reliable power delivery to the endpoint. For runs beyond 100 meters or where additional headroom is needed, a PoE+ switch with integrated power management remains the preferred solution. The NETWAY1XP excels in single-device or small-scale retrofits where a full infrastructure refresh is not justified.
Installation footprint is minimal: the injector measures approximately 3.5" × 2.5" × 1.5" and is DIN-rail mountable in cabinet or junction-box installations. Power input is hardwired AC line or plug-based depending on regional sourcing. Data and power pass through via standard RJ45 connectors on both input and output sides. No configuration, SNMP management, or monitoring interface is required — the NETWAY1XP is a passive injection device that simply couples power into the Ethernet line and then disconnects when the endpoint is disconnected.
The NETWAY1XP is certified for indoor use in dry environments. For outdoor installations, pole-mount enclosures with integrated surge protection are recommended; Altronix manufactures compatible DIN-rail surge modules that pair well with midspan injectors in lightning-prone regions. Deployments in hospitals, schools, corporate campuses, and retail environments benefit from the simplicity and cost efficiency of midspan injection, particularly when a single camera or access point needs power and the existing network infrastructure is non-PoE.
We've deployed the Altronix NETWAY1XP across dozens of retrofit sites where a full PoE switch replacement was either not feasible or economically unjustifiable. The midspan injection model solves a real problem: legacy non-PoE infrastructure that still has years of useful life, but needs to power a single new IP camera, access point, or intercom. In our experience, a single-port injector costs one-quarter to one-third of a managed PoE switch, requires zero IT involvement, and can be installed by a technician with a screwdriver and a pair of wire strippers. The 30W budget is the right spot for most security endpoints — enough for PTZ cameras with heaters, high-drain access points, and powered intercoms, but not so high that you're paying for unused capacity on fixed dome cameras. The 100-meter range is honest; we've tested the unit on a full Cat5e run and power delivery remains solid. One caveat: this is a passive device with no management capability. If you need per-port power monitoring, scheduled power cycling, or remote reset capability, a managed PoE switch is your only option. But if you need to get power to one device reliably and your existing cabling is already in place, the NETWAY1XP is a no-brainer.

Deployment Considerations:
The NETWAY1XP is the right choice for single-device retrofits, branch offices that need to extend power to a remote access point, and field repairs where a powered endpoint failed and needs power delivered over existing cabling. For scaling to 4+ devices or requiring management visibility, step up to a Altronix managed PoE switch or a full-featured network switch from Cisco, Netgear, or Ubiquiti.
