Description

Altronix NETWAYSP81BTWPX 8-Port Fiber Media Converter

Overview

The Altronix NETWAYSP81BTWPX is an 8-port Ethernet to Fiber media converter designed for extending network connectivity over long distances, crucial for large-scale surveillance deployments. This unit integrates 8 PoE/PoE+ (802.3af/at) ports with two SFP slots, enabling seamless transmission of data and power to remote IP cameras or devices. Its hardened enclosure is rated for NEMA 4, suitable for environments exposed to dust and water ingress, making it ideal for outdoor or industrial installations where standard network equipment cannot survive. The NETWAYSP81BTWPX facilitates the deployment of surveillance systems across campuses, city blocks, or any area requiring extended network reach beyond typical Ethernet cable limitations.

Compatibility

This media converter is designed to interface with standard Ethernet network infrastructure. The 8 PoE/PoE+ ports are compatible with any IEEE 802.3af or 802.3at compliant IP camera, access control device, or other network endpoint. The two SFP slots accept any industry-standard Small Form-factor Pluggable transceivers, allowing for flexible fiber optic cable types (multimode or single-mode) and connection distances up to 120km, depending on the SFP module selected. It functions as a transparent bridge, compatible with all network protocols and VMS platforms that support standard Ethernet communication.

Installation Notes

The NETWAYSP81BTWPX requires a 12-24VDC power input (not included) to power the unit and its PoE ports. It supports up to 30W of total power budget distributed among the 8 PoE ports. Installation requires mounting the unit securely and connecting the appropriate SFP transceivers into the available slots. Ethernet cables connect to the 8 RJ45 ports, and fiber optic cables connect to the installed SFPs. Ensure the NEMA 4 enclosure is properly sealed after installation to maintain its environmental rating.
