Overview

The Middle Atlantic AS3-22 is a 3U (5.25 in.) heavy-duty vented rack shelf engineered for demanding AV and security equipment installations where fixed-depth shelves fall short. The AS3-22 accepts equipment up to 28 in. deep — adjustable from a minimum of 19.5 in. — so you can accommodate deep NVRs, media converters, UPS units, or other rack-mount gear without a custom solution. The 300 lb working load capacity and 500 lb UL-rated load capacity mean this shelf handles virtually anything you'll mount in a standard 19 in. rack. Vented steel construction allows passive airflow through the shelf surface, reducing heat buildup for chassis-sensitive equipment running 24/7. Four mounting points distribute load stress across the rack frame rather than concentrating it at two points — a meaningful factor in high-load deployments. It fits any standard 19 in. EIA rack enclosure, including open-frame, two-post, and four-post configurations compatible with the Middle Atlantic rack line.

Compatibility

The AS3-22 fits any EIA-310 standard 19 in. rack enclosure with a minimum usable depth of 19.5 in. The adjustable depth range (19.5–28 in.) covers the majority of network video recorders, patch panels, and AV signal processors commonly deployed in security and AV systems. Verify your rack's usable interior depth before ordering — the shelf itself extends to 19.5 in. minimum mounted depth, so shallower rack cabinets will not accommodate it. The 5.25 in. (3RU) height requires three consecutive open rack units in the target enclosure. Works alongside other Middle Atlantic rack shelves and accessories within the same frame without modification.

Installation Notes

Four mounting points attach to the rack's vertical rails — use appropriate rack screws for your rail type (10-32, 12-24, or M6 cage nuts, depending on your rack frame). Set the shelf depth before securing the mounting hardware; the sliding adjustment locks into position when the rail hardware is torqued down. Shipping weight is 16.4 lbs — plan accordingly for two-person installation in tall rack columns. No tools beyond a standard screwdriver or nut driver are required for depth adjustment or rail mounting.
