The VM51616H is a 16-input, 16-output HDMI matrix switch from the ATEN video distribution catalog built for AV-over-infrastructure deployments where you need to independently route any of 16 HDMI sources to any combination of 16 displays. It handles matrix video switching at up to 1080p — keeping things simple and reliable for command centers, conference suites, digital signage networks, and security monitoring walls where source-to-display flexibility matters more than 4K throughput. The VM51616H fits a 2U rack slot and draws from a universal 100–240 VAC supply, making it straightforward to drop into an existing equipment rack without sourcing a region-specific PSU.
Designed to work with any HDMI 1080p source and display — compatible with ATEN control systems and manageable via RESTful API (documented in the bundled vm_restful_api PDF), making it integrable with third-party control platforms like Crestron, AMX, or Extron that support HTTP-based device control. EDID management supports Default, Port1, Remix, and Customized modes via EDID Wizard — critical when pairing sources and displays with mismatched EDID profiles, which is a common headache on mixed-vendor display walls. The RJ-45 Ethernet port enables IP-based control and monitoring, so you can manage routing from a network-connected control station without requiring RS-232 serial access. Analog audio breakout is available via a 3.5mm stereo jack for scenarios where you need to extract audio to a separate amplifier or PA system. For longer cable runs, note the 5m maximum HDMI distance — plan your rack-to-display runs accordingly, or pair with HDMI extenders for longer distances.
Rack-mount installation requires 2U of clearance. Maximum cable distance is 5m per HDMI port — keep source and display connections within that limit to avoid signal degradation. Operating humidity limit is 0–80% RH non-condensing; avoid installations in unconditioned spaces with condensation risk. Firmware is field-upgradeable (current release v4.3.425, dated 2025-05-22), allowing you to apply updates without returning the unit.
