Description

ATEN CN800 USB VGA KVM Over IP Mini Switch

Overview

The ATEN CN800 is a single-port KVM over IP switch that lets you access and control a remote server or workstation — keyboard, video, and mouse — over a standard IP network. It targets data center technicians and IT administrators who need out-of-band access to a headless machine without running a dedicated crash cart to the rack. The CN800 delivers up to 1920×1200 video resolution over the LAN connection, preserving enough display fidelity for BIOS-level diagnostics, OS installation, and console work that would otherwise require physical presence. A single RJ-45 LAN port handles all IP traffic, keeping cabling simple in dense rack environments.

Compatibility

The CN800 works with any server or workstation that exposes a standard USB keyboard/mouse interface and a VGA video output — making it broadly compatible with x86 servers, KVM-managed blades, and legacy rack equipment that has not migrated to IPMI or dedicated BMC. It is designed for integration into rack and recessed-mount deployments within the ATEN KVM product line, and pairs well with ATEN KVM switches and KVM over IP solutions where per-port remote access is needed. Firmware v1.0.063 (released 2025-04-14) is the current production version — confirm target host OS compatibility against the server management accessories matrix before deployment.

Installation Notes

Operating humidity must stay within 0–80% RH non-condensing — standard for enclosed rack spaces but worth verifying in open industrial environments. The reset is semi-recessed to prevent accidental actuation in dense cable runs. Mount orientation follows ATEN's rack product convention: physical dimensions are expressed as L×W×H (depth listed as 9.32 cm), so confirm rack depth clearance before ordering. The LAN infrastructure only requires a single RJ-45 connection per CN800 unit — no secondary management port needed. Refer to the cn800-user-manual-w.pdf for port pinout and IP configuration steps before commissioning.
