Description

ATEN EA1240 Temperature and Humidity Sensor

Overview

The EA1240 is a wired environmental sensor that monitors ambient temperature and relative humidity directly from compatible ATEN management hardware. It connects via a 3-meter RJ-11 cable — long enough to reach from a rack-mounted controller to the most relevant measurement point in the enclosure or room, without requiring an external power supply beyond what the host unit provides (5 VDC max, 5 mA peak draw). Accuracy is ±1°C for temperature and ±3% RH for humidity, which is sufficient for data center threshold alerting and equipment protection workflows. The EA1240 keeps the sensing element close to the assets being monitored rather than relying on room-level HVAC readings, giving the management platform actionable environmental data tied to a specific rack location.

Compatibility

The EA1240 is designed for use with ATEN eco PDU and KVM over IP product lines that include an RJ-11 sensor port — specifically the ATEN PE and EC series eco PDUs and compatible ATEN KVM units that expose environmental sensor input. Verify your specific host unit's datasheet for sensor port availability before ordering; not all ATEN PDU or KVM models include an RJ-11 environmental input. The sensor is not a standalone device and will not report data without a compatible ATEN host.

Installation Notes

Plug the RJ-11 Male connector directly into the sensor port on the host unit — no tools required. Operating range is 0–55°C; do not deploy in environments that exceed this threshold or drop below 0°C (storage down to -20°C is acceptable). Keep ambient humidity below 95% RH non-condensing. The plastic housing is not rated for outdoor or wet locations. Cable length is fixed at 3 m with no extension option documented; position the host unit accordingly.
