Overview

The Middle Atlantic 817 is a 10 ft (3.1 m) Cat6 shielded (STP) patch cable with booted RJ-45 connectors on both ends. It is designed for structured cabling runs in AV racks, security head-end closets, and network equipment rooms where EMI interference from adjacent power runs or dense cabling environments can degrade signal integrity. The STP shielding gives this cable an edge over standard UTP Cat6 in rack environments where switching power supplies, UPS units, and PDUs share enclosure space with network gear. The 817 wires to T568B — the dominant standard in commercial installations — and uses 26 AWG stranded copper, which provides the flexibility needed for repeated patch and re-patch cycles without conductor fatigue. At 0.24 in (6.2 mm) outside diameter, it routes cleanly through cable managers and brush strips without bulk.

Compatibility

This cable is compatible with any Cat6 or Cat5e RJ-45 port on network switches, NVRs, PoE injectors, IP cameras with RJ-45 interfaces, access control panels, intercoms, and other structured-cabling-connected devices. It is particularly well-suited for Middle Atlantic rack systems where patch panel to switch runs require EMI-hardened network patch cables. The T568B termination scheme is compatible with virtually all commercial network infrastructure. Cat6 performance supports Gigabit Ethernet and 10GbE at shorter distances, making it appropriate for NVR-to-switch connections in network video recorder deployments. Installation Notes

Stranded conductors are optimized for patch applications — do not use this cable for in-wall or permanent horizontal runs, where solid-conductor cable is required by TIA-568 standards. The PVC jacket is rated standard non-plenum; if the cable must run through air-handling spaces, a CMP-rated alternative is required. The booted, snagless connector design reduces accidental disconnection during cable management and protects the latch in high-density patch environments. RoHS-compliant materials; CE marked.
