Description

Allied Telesis AT-FL-X930-MRP Media Redundancy Protocol License

Overview

The AT-FL-X930-MRP is a software license that unlocks Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP) functionality on Allied Telesis X930-series switches. MRP is an IEC 62439-2 standard ring redundancy protocol designed for industrial Ethernet and process automation environments where sub-200ms failover is required — a practical requirement on factory floors, building automation backbones, and physical security networks where a single link failure cannot take down a ring segment. Without this license, MRP remains inactive on the switch regardless of hardware capability; installing AT-FL-X930-MRP enables the feature set immediately with no hardware change.

Compatibility

This license is exclusively compatible with the Allied Telesis X930-series managed switches, including the AT-x930-28GPX, AT-x930-28GTX, AT-x930-52GTX, and AT-x930-52GPX. It is not transferable to other Allied Telesis switch families (x510, x550, x930L, or SwitchBlade series) and cannot be applied to switches outside the X930 platform. Verify your switch model before ordering — the license is node-locked to the target unit. For deployments pairing X930 switches with network video recorders or IP camera rings where loop protection and fast recovery are critical, MRP provides a deterministic failover path that STP-based redundancy cannot match in latency. If your topology includes PoE switches feeding IP endpoints in a ring, confirm those upstream switches also support MRP or can participate as MRP clients.

Installation Notes

License activation requires access to the AlliedWare Plus CLI or the GUI license manager on the target X930 switch. Apply the license key via the license certificate install command and reload the switch to activate MRP. No physical installation is required. Ensure the switch is running a firmware version that supports MRP — consult the Allied Telesis release notes for the minimum AlliedWare Plus version required for AT-FL-X930-MRP before applying. Once active, configure MRP ring roles (Manager or Client) per port using standard AlliedWare Plus MRP commands.
