Overview

The Middle Atlantic UD3 is a 3-rack-unit (5.25 in) utility drawer designed to mount in any standard 19-inch rack frame, giving installers an enclosed sliding storage compartment inside the rack enclosure itself. The UD3 fills a practical gap in rack builds where loose accessories — patch leads, transceivers, license dongles, spare SFPs, or small tools — need a dedicated, accessible home without occupying shelf space or cluttering the floor. At 15.85 inches deep, it fits comfortably in most mid-depth and full-depth rack cabinets without bottoming out against rear cable management. The 50 lb UL-rated load capacity handles dense gear storage without flex or sag.

Compatibility

The UD3 mounts in any standard EIA-310 19-inch rack with 10-32 or 12-24 threaded rails, or square/round-hole rails using appropriate cage nuts — the same rails used by Middle Atlantic rack enclosures and virtually every major rack cabinet brand. It pairs directly with rack cabinets and open-frame racks in network closets, AV equipment rooms, and security head-end installations. Two front mounting points secure to standard rack rails at 3U spacing. The 19-inch panel width fits without modification in any EIA-compliant rack column. Confirm your rack's interior depth exceeds 15.85 inches before ordering — shallow-depth wall-mount enclosures under 18 inches may not accommodate the full drawer travel.

Installation Notes

Mount using the two front-rail attachment points at the 3U (5.25 in) hole pattern. Rear support is not required given the 50 lb UL load rating, but heavily loaded drawers benefit from a rear support rail or shelf bracket in racks deeper than 24 inches to prevent tipping under full extension. Shipping weight is 18.5 lbs — account for this when calculating total rack load for floor or wall-mount installations with aggregate weight limits.
