Black Box LMC404AE Media Converter
Overview
The Black Box LMC404AE is a compact media converter designed to bridge the gap between copper Ethernet and fiber optic cabling. It allows you to extend network distances beyond the limitations of standard Ethernet (100 meters) by converting 10/100Base-TX copper signals to 100Base-FX fiber signals. This is critical for deploying network devices, such as IP cameras or access control readers, in locations far from the network closet or where electromagnetic interference is a concern. Its small form factor and international power supply make it suitable for various deployment scenarios, including industrial environments and remote surveillance installations.
Compatibility
This converter is designed to interface with standard 10/100Base-TX Ethernet ports found on most network switches, IP cameras, and other network-attached devices. The fiber optic side utilizes an SC connector for 100Base-FX, supporting multimode fiber. It is compatible with any network equipment that adheres to the IEEE 802.3u (Fast Ethernet) standard for copper and fiber interfaces.
Installation Notes
Requires a standard 10/100Base-TX Ethernet cable (Cat 5e or higher) on the copper side and appropriate multimode fiber optic cable with SC connectors on the fiber side. An external power supply (included) is required for operation. Ensure the fiber optic cable path is within the specified distance limits for 100Base-FX multimode fiber (typically up to 2 kilometers for standard multimode).
