POS Card Readers & PIN Pads

Card readers and PIN entry devices process payment cards at the point of sale — magnetic stripe (MSR), EMV chip, and contactless / NFC for tap-to-pay. Devices integrate with the POS terminal over USB or Bluetooth, and PCI-PTS-certified PIN pads protect cardholder data entry for debit and signature-required transactions.

Plan Your Deployment

  • Payment technology: MSR-only, EMV chip-and-PIN, contactless / NFC, or combined
  • PCI-PTS certification level required by your payment processor
  • Connectivity: USB-HID, USB-CDC, serial, Bluetooth, or wireless
  • PIN-entry: standalone PIN pad vs. integrated terminal display
  • Processor integration: verify SDK / driver compatibility with your POS software

What to Look For

Confirm your payment processor's certified device list before purchase — gateways like Stripe, Square, Worldpay, and Heartland each maintain their own compatibility matrices. PCI-PTS 6.x is the current certification standard for new deployments; older PTS 4.x devices may still be deployable but will reach end-of-validity sooner. Contactless (NFC) is required for Apple Pay, Google Pay, and most modern co-branded debit programs.
