Axis Communications Q1961-XTE Overview
The Axis Q1961-XTE is a Class/Division 2- and Zone 2-certified explosion-protected thermometric camera designed specifically for remote temperature monitoring in hazardous locations worldwide. Engineered on the ARTPEC-8 platform, this compact, lightweight camera delivers continuous thermal measurement across an extended range of -40°C to 350°C (-40°F to 660°F), making it suitable for petrochemical facilities, power generation plants, manufacturing operations, and other regulated industrial environments requiring explosion-protected equipment.
Axis Communications Q1961-XTE Key Features
- Uncooled microbolometer thermal sensor with 384x288 pixel resolution, 17 μm pixel size, and 8–14 μm spectral range; image can be scaled up to 768x576 for enhanced detail.
- Configurable temperature monitoring across 10 polygonal detection areas with threshold-based alerts; automatic notifications trigger when temperature exceeds or falls below set limits, or when temperature changes at rates faster than configured thresholds.
- Spot temperature reading capability provides exact temperature measurement in specific regions of interest.
- Integrated early fire detection analytics (included) enables preventive action on early signs of thermal anomalies and fire initiation.
- Dual video codec support: H.264 (Baseline, Main, High Profiles) and H.265 (Main Profile) compression with Axis Zipstream technology for optimized bandwidth and storage efficiency; Motion JPEG also supported.
- Frame rate options: 8.3 fps or 30 fps variants available to match deployment requirements and network constraints.
- Thermometric accuracy with NETD (Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference) of 40 mK @ 25°C, F1.0; athermalized 7 mm lens with F1.18 aperture, 55° horizontal field of view, and 1.3 m (4.3 ft) minimum focus distance.
- IP66/IP67 sealed enclosure with IK10 impact resistance (excluding front glass) ensures durability in harsh industrial environments; halogen-free construction for safety.
- Axis Edge Vault hardware-based cybersecurity platform safeguards the device and protects sensitive information from unauthorized access; supports secure boot and signed firmware integrity.
- Multi-region explosion certifications: ATEX, IECEx, PESO, JPEx, SANAS (IA), KCs, OSHA (Taiwan) [II 3 G Ex ec IIC T4 Gc, II 2 D Ex tb IIIC 135C Db]; UL Class I Div 2 Group ABCD T4, Class II Div 2 Group FG T135C, Class III Div 2; AEx Zone 2/Zone 21 certifications.
- Up to 20 configurable video streams with controllable frame rate and bandwidth; VBR, ABR, and MBR bitrate modes support flexible streaming architectures.
- Edge connectivity enables direct connection of network speakers and other Axis network devices via built-in integration.
Axis Communications Q1961-XTE Integration & Compatibility
The Q1961-XTE supports ONVIF-compliant VMS platforms and integrates with Axis Camera Station and third-party video management systems that support thermal analytics. Thermal stream output and configurable video parameters (contrast, brightness, sharpness, local contrast, exposure zones, compression, rotation, mirroring, polygon privacy masking, and multiple color palettes) enable seamless integration into existing surveillance infrastructure. The device streams thermal video natively over standard IP networks, supporting up to 20 simultaneous video streams for multi-view monitoring and centralized analytics processing.
