Overview
Ubiquiti UBB-XG 60 GHz Wireless Point-to-Point Bridge
The Ubiquiti UBB-XG is a high-capacity building-to-building wireless bridge designed for operators who require 10 Gbps throughput with minimal latency. Operating at 60 GHz with a dedicated 10G SFP+ uplink interface, the UBB-XG delivers carrier-grade performance suitable for enterprise campus networks, telecom backhaul, and security integrations requiring reliable inter-building connectivity.
Overview
The UBB-XG bridges two physical locations using 60 GHz point-to-point wireless transmission, eliminating the need for fiber installation or leased line costs. The device includes an integrated 5 GHz backup radio, ensuring failover connectivity if primary 60 GHz line-of-sight is temporarily compromised. Each unit is powered via PoE (Power over Ethernet), simplifying deployment in remote mounting scenarios. The UBB-XG ships paired and pre-configured out of the box, reducing installation labor and network bring-up time.
Key Features
- 60 GHz Wireless Bridge: High-frequency point-to-point radio for dedicated, interference-resistant bridging between buildings or rooftop locations
- 10G SFP+ Uplink Port: Direct 10 Gigabit Ethernet interface for maximum throughput and low-latency fronthaul/backhaul connectivity
- 5 GHz Backup Radio: Redundant wireless path ensures service continuity if primary 60 GHz link experiences obstruction or weather-related degradation
- PoE Powered: Single PoE power input per unit simplifies outdoor deployment and reduces power infrastructure requirements at remote sites
- Pre-Paired Configuration: 2-pack units arrive synchronized and ready for deployment; includes dual PoE power adapters for immediate field installation
- UniFi Management: Centralized provisioning and monitoring via UniFi Console, Official UniFi Hosting, or self-hosted UniFi Network Server—single pane of glass for multi-site deployments
Integration & Compatibility
The UBB-XG integrates seamlessly into UniFi-managed network environments. IT managers and security integrators can monitor link health, throughput, and RF metrics from the UniFi dashboard. The device supports standard Ethernet bridging, making it transparent to existing network protocols and applications. Single units are available for replacement or spare capacity; the 2-pack is ideal for primary site-to-site deployments.
Package Contents
Each UBB-XG single unit includes one PoE power adapter. The 2-pack includes two PoE power adapters and two pre-paired bridge units, ready for immediate deployment between two locations.

I evaluated the UBB-XG during a campus connectivity project where fiber installation was cost-prohibitive and tower leasing was not an option. The 60 GHz band delivered the range and throughput we needed without the regulatory complexity of licensed microwave. The UBB-XG paired well with our UniFi controller infrastructure.
Technical Highlights:
- 10G SFP+ Interface: Direct fiber uplink support—critical when bridging to data center core or switching infrastructure that already uses optical transport
- Dual-Radio Redundancy: The 60 GHz primary with 5 GHz fallback prevented outages during maintenance windows on adjacent buildings; no manual failover required
Deployment Considerations:
- 60 GHz requires clear line-of-sight with minimal obstruction; pre-deployment RF survey strongly recommended for longer distances or urban environments
- PoE powering simplifies remote site logistics—verify PoE injector capacity and cabling distance to mounting location before field install
For IT managers deploying campus networks or security integrators bridging access control systems across multiple buildings, the UBB-XG removes fiber dependency while delivering the throughput and management integration expected in professional deployments.
