Description

Pelco SRXE4-4V9-EMD-IR1-CD

Pelco SRXE4-4V9-EMD-IR1-CD Overview

The Pelco SRXE4-4V9-EMD-IR1-CD is a 4 MP surface-mount dome camera in the Sarix Enhanced 4CD series, purpose-built for high-risk environments such as corrections and healthcare facilities. It combines a 1/1.8 inch progressive scan CMOS sensor with a 4.4 to 9.3 mm motorized varifocal lens, integrated 850 nm IR illumination, Smart Analytics, and onboard audio capabilities. The housing is engineered with a gap-free design to reduce contraband concealment and self-harm risk, while delivering enterprise-grade cybersecurity features including FIPS 140-3 Level 3 with onboard TPM, Secure Boot, and signed and encrypted firmware. The camera supports ONVIF Profiles S, T, M, and G for broad VMS interoperability.

Optical System and Coverage Geometry – What Actually Matters

The 4.4 to 9.3 mm lens provides a horizontal field of view from 47 to 111 degrees in 16:9 mode (35 to 78 degrees in 4:3). At the wide end, the 111 degree view supports room coverage in small to mid-size spaces, reducing blind spots in confined interiors. At the tele end, the 47 degree horizontal field of view improves pixel density for subject identification at controlled distances, making it suitable for dayrooms, corridors, and intake areas where facial detail is operationally important.

Installers must account for mounting height and standoff distance. Wider angles increase scene context but reduce pixels per foot at distance. The motorized remote zoom and focus simplify commissioning in secure ceilings or hardened walls, minimizing repeat physical access. The integrated IR system delivers up to 25 m at full wide and up to 50 m at full tele, enabling consistent monochrome imaging in zero lux conditions.

AI and Analytics

The camera supports classified object detection for persons and vehicles, including directional violations, loitering, beam crossing, and crowd-related events. Smart Motion rules provide person and vehicle presence alerts. Audio analytics include detection of scream, glass break, car alarm, smoke alarm, dog bark, tire screech, loud noise, and ultrasonic panic alarms at specified ranges. These capabilities allow event-driven recording and proactive alerting without reliance on server-side analytics.

Image Quality and Low Light Performance

With up to 106 dB WDR (dual exposure) and up to 136 dB in triple exposure modes depending on configuration, the camera manages challenging lighting transitions common in institutional facilities. Minimum illumination reaches 0 lux with IR enabled and as low as 0.003 lux in monochrome without IR. H.264 and H.265 HDSM SmartCodec technologies optimize bandwidth and storage utilization.

Environmental and Durability Ratings

The polycarbonate and aluminum construction is rated IP66, IP67, IP68 (2 m for 2 hours), IPX9K, NEMA 4X, and IK11. Operating temperature ranges from -30 C to +65 C on PoE and down to -50 C with external power or PoE+. These ratings support washdown areas, exterior perimeters, and high-abuse environments.

Infrastructure and Security Considerations

The camera supports 100BASE-TX Ethernet, dual microSD slots (up to 1.5 TB tested), PoE IEEE 802.3af Class 3, PoE+ IEEE 802.3at Class 4, or 12-24 VDC input. Cybersecurity controls include HTTPS, 802.1X authentication, user access logging, and FIPS 140-3 Level 3 compliance, aligning with hardened network policies in government and critical infrastructure deployments.

When This Is the Right Choice

This model is appropriate for correctional cells, behavioral health facilities, and other environments requiring anti-ligature surface mounting, strong WDR, integrated IR, and edge-based analytics with enterprise cybersecurity compliance.

When It Is Not the Right Choice

It is not ideal where ultra-long-range identification beyond 50 m is required, or where panoramic or multi-sensor coverage is preferred over a single varifocal optical path.
