Axis AXIS Q6086-E PTZ Camera

Axis AXIS Q6086-E PTZ Camera Overview

The AXIS Q6086-E is a high-performance outdoor PTZ camera built around a 1/2 inch progressive scan CMOS sensor with 4MP resolution and 34x optical zoom. Designed on the ARTPEC-9 platform with a deep learning processing unit, it supports AV1, H.265, and H.264 compression and runs advanced analytics directly at the edge. This model combines Lightfinder 2.0, Forensic WDR up to 120 dB depending on scene, and precise laser-assisted focus to deliver reliable imaging in challenging lighting conditions. With IP66, IP67, IK10, NEMA 4X, and NEMA TS 2 ratings, it is engineered for exposed perimeter, transportation, and critical infrastructure deployments where environmental durability and operational continuity are mandatory.

Lens and Coverage Geometry – What Actually Matters

The integrated varifocal lens spans 6.64 to 225.5 mm with an aperture range of F1.7 to F5.1. Horizontal field of view ranges from 61.5 degrees at wide to 2.0 degrees at full tele. Vertical field of view ranges from 37.3 degrees to 1.1 degrees. This is a true long-range PTZ. At tele, you are concentrating pixels tightly, and the DORI values reflect that: identification at tele is specified at 311.8 m, recognition at 623.6 m, and observation at 1237.5 m under EN 62676-4 methodology. At wide, identification is 9.3 m and recognition 18.5 m. These figures are calculated from pixel density at image center and must be treated as planning guidance, not guarantees. Minimum focus distance is 3 m. Laser focus accelerates focus acquisition in low contrast or low light scenes, continuously verifying focus as the scene changes. Pan is 360 degrees endless, tilt from 0 to -90 degrees, with pan and tilt speeds up to 500 degrees per second. Up to 300 preset positions and multiple tour modes allow structured patrol programming.

AI and Analytics

AXIS Object Analytics is included, supporting classification of humans and vehicles including sub-types such as cars, buses, trucks, and bikes. Scenarios include line crossing, object in area, time in area, crossline counting, occupancy in area, tailgating detection, motion in area, and motion line crossing. Up to 10 scenarios can run simultaneously. AXIS Scene Metadata provides object classes including humans, faces, vehicles, and license plates with attributes such as vehicle color and clothing color. AXIS Image Health Analytics monitors for tampering, blur, and underexposure. Autotracking and active gatekeeper are supported. The ARTPEC-9 DLPU enables accelerated analytics performance without offloading to external servers.

Image Quality and Low Light Performance

Minimum illumination is rated at 0.07 lux color and 0.005 lux black and white at 30 IRE, F1.7. At 50 IRE, values are 0.1 lux color and 0.009 lux black and white. Lightfinder 2.0 enhances color performance in low light, while Forensic WDR up to 120 dB preserves detail in high-contrast scenes. Shutter speed ranges from 1/49500 s to 2 s. Noise reduction includes 2D and 3D filtering. Resolution ranges from 2688x1512 down to 640x360 at up to 50/60 fps across all resolutions. Axis Zipstream with AV1, H.265, and H.264 reduces bandwidth and storage load while maintaining forensic detail.

Environmental and Durability Ratings

This unit is IP66 and IP67 rated for water and dust ingress, IK10 for impact resistance, and compliant with NEMA 4X and NEMA TS 2. It meets ISO 12944-6 C5 for corrosion resistance and MIL-STD-810H environmental methods. Operating temperature with full power 60 W is -50 C to 55 C, with Arctic temperature control enabling start-up as low as -40 C. Humidity range is 10 to 100 percent RH condensing. Effective projected area is 0.046 m2, relevant for pole load calculations.

Infrastructure and Security Considerations

Power options include IEEE 802.3bt Class 6 or Class 4. Full power consumption is typical 10 W with maximum up to 51 W depending on mode. Features include dynamic power mode and power meter. Networking is via RJ45 10/100/1000BASE-T PoE with IP66/IP67 push-pull connector. Edge storage supports SD, SDHC, and SDXC with AES-XTS-Plain64 256bit encryption and NAS recording. Cybersecurity features include signed OS, secure boot, Axis Edge Vault with secure element (CC EAL 6+, FIPS 140-3 Level 3), encrypted filesystem, IEEE 802.1X, TLS v1.2 and v1.3, and host-based firewall. Memory includes 4096 MB RAM and 8192 MB Flash.

When This Is the Right Choice

The Q6086-E is appropriate for large-area surveillance requiring long-range identification, rapid PTZ response, and advanced edge analytics. Transportation hubs, city surveillance, ports, and industrial sites benefit from its zoom reach and environmental resilience.

When It Is Not the Right Choice

This is not a fixed overview camera. Its strength is active monitoring and long-range detail. Sites requiring passive multi-directional coverage without operator or analytic control may require additional fixed cameras.
