Axis Communications invented the network camera. The AXIS NetEye 200, shipped in 1996, was the first IP camera to reach the commercial market. Three decades later, the company is the design reference every IP camera vendor benchmarks against. Now part of Canon Inc., Axis runs a security pipeline most of the market still doesn't match: monthly signed firmware releases, public CVE disclosure, 10-year security maintenance on most models, and an open ACAP framework that ships analytics as field-installable apps. The cameras are not the cheapest in the rack. They are the cameras enterprise integrators specify when the customer cannot afford to find out what the cheap camera does at year three.

You pay more per unit than Hanwha or Vivotek \u2014 what you buy is the firmware pipeline, the ACAP analytics ecosystem, and the fact that every VMS on earth treats Axis as its reference implementation.
